I also have received a call from this number saying it is from the irs. They do not work on Saturdays so I know it was bogus. And it was a machine sounding voice.
The IRS reminds people that they can know pretty easily when a supposed IRS caller is a fake. Here are five things the scammers often do but the IRS will not do. Any one of these five things is a tell-tale sign of a scam. The IRS will never:
Call to demand immediate payment, nor will we call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill..
Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.
Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
IRS scam, I am current on all my taxes and this is a phone number to a boy who isn't old enough to file for taxes. LOL What a joke, I already lost one job to outsourcing to company's overseas I'm not giving them anymore!!
Got that really SLOW robotic "Heather Grahm" calling me (or my representative) from IRS with a TIME SENSITIVE issue. She (it) gave me a HOTLINE number........(the IRS doesn't have a "HOTLINE")......telling me that I need to call immediately OR ELSE there would be legal action taken against me. TOTAL EXTORTION and SCARE TACTIC! I have dealt with the IRS before and they have a TOLL FREE number with each representative having their own extension number......and they DON'T CALL YOU.......they send you mail...and then registered mail when it gets serious.
SO... I blocked the number but they continue to call....over and over. My phone never rings but they keep being able to leave voicemails. they are filling up my voicemail box! I tried calling the number to see if I could get a live person to "chat" with......BUSY SIGNAL.....tried again and agin until I finally got the "this phone is not authorized to make this call" message. I figure there are probably SO many people calling back....scared to death....that the phone providers can't keep up with the volume and most people never even get through to the "this phone not authorized to make this call" message. I am glad that my phone knows NOT to call this number because its probably out of the country or something.
Above all of this...my phone keeps getting about 10 calls a day from numbers ALL OVER the United States (so they claim). I have even gotten calls that came in as being from Egypt....until they smartened up and took the international code off of the front of it....then they appear as coming from the U.S.
We need to establish laws that treat phone scams with as much seriousness as mail scam.....cause anything that comes through the mail is considered a FEDERAL OFFENSE.
I can't think of a punishment suitable for these sick, predatory pieces of waste....but I take a little comfort in believing that there must be a special place in hell set aside for them.
