I took the bait on a scratch off game that was sent in the mail. The game was “Poker Jackpot”, when I scratched off I had a winning hand. I called the number to see what I had won and I was told that someone would need to come and verify my winning card. I was also told that after I received my prize, they would like 30 minutes of my time to do a demonstration on Air Quality System. I entertained the idea because my entire family suffers from bad allergies. Well, 2 people showed up at my house. The gentleman was a sales rep and the girl was a trainee. They came 15 minutes early, usually wouldn’t have been a big deal, but I had just walked in to our house with my 3 little children. My husband got home about 5 minutes before me and he was working on supper. Since they arrived early, supper was put on hold. This was only going to be a 30 minute demo, so supper could wait a little bit. Not only did I get an Air Quality System demo, they also demoed a surface cleaner. I was completely insulted when the girl asked if the sales rep was going to start using my vacuum cleaner. When he said “yes” she walked out of my house and then came back in with a face mask. She said that she was allergic to vacuum cleaners because they push around so much dust and she’s allergic to dust. The red flag immediately came up, during the entire presentation the sales rep was using filters that was catching dust. He would then take a light and scrap the dust off in to the air, the trainee was sitting right next to him the entire time. So why all of a sudden is dust going to bother you now? 2 hours later these people were still in my house. I told them that I was not going to buy anything at that point, I needed to discuss the decision with my husband (who was already really annoyed and had completely removed himself from the presentation). The sales rep said that the prices he had to offer were only good while he was there. I then told him that I wasn’t going to do an impulse buy and that I needed to discuss our family budget with my Husband. He then said “Come on, people impulse buy all of the time. Can you really tell me that you have no idea what’s in your budget”. At this point, I’m starting to get very angry. I told him several times that I didn’t want to buy anything. The cost of the products was well over a budget that I could afford. Even if I could afford the products, I would have turned them down because of the way that he was treating me. It took me 35 minutes to get them out of my house. In all the 30 minute demo turned in to a 2 hour and 15 minute demo and I got a Chefmaster/KitchenWorthy BBQ Set that is not kitchen worthy by any means. I should have required them to show me the prize that I won when they got there, like they said on the sales call. I wonder if I would’ve received something better had I bought something. All in all, they are extremely rude and over stay their welcome!
If sales people came into your house and won't leave when it is time, tell them "the discussion is over and you must leave." If they persist, remain calm and firmly repeat the phrase again.
If they refuse to leave after you told them to, don't let them push your psychological buttons. Call the police and have them removed.
Many communities have laws regarding sales people who bully or refuse to leave the premises when asked.
They can be arrested for violating this law.
Recording these people with the movie making mode on a digital camera might be to your benefit as well.
The first call I received, I was asked to do a 30 second air quality survey. They were simple rhetorical questions for the most part. In closing, I was told I may be selected to win a prize from my participation.
The next day I received a second call and surprise! I was selected to win a prize! I was to select from four different prizes that they would deliver to me. I responded by saying I wasn't interested in the prize I apparently won. The callers grumpy response was "okay fine, but...." Then they hung up on me. The call really ended that fast, which was unusual however it was at the end of the business day.
The very next day, (for the third day in a row, all calls have come from the same number) the same gentlemen from the previous day called back to say I had won a prize. One of four of the same prize selection and asked me to pick which one I would like so they could deliver it to my doorstep. Today he called early in the morning and we exchanged a few more sentences this time.
I reminded him he called my yesterday and hung up on me when I declined the prize, so I was surprised to hear from him again. I then told him I am still going to pass on the prize. "But you won, where I can we drop your prize off? ME: No really, I don't want the prize.... THEM: blah, blah, blah....disconnect.
This is fake. I played a scratch off with a winning card. Called the #, and it was a young sounding unprofessional teenage boy. Unbelievable. No thanks?! Reported!
