Yet another consumer that has no idea what the DO NOT CALL list actually does. The list does not block telemarketers from calling you, it only makes it a violation of FCC regulations to do so. You have to report the caller to the FCC, and only once the FCC has received thousands of complaints about a particular company will they take action. Also, any company with which you have an ongoing relationship (your cable provider, for example) is allowed to call you, even if you are on the list. Any company with which you've had a relationship in the past 18 months is also allowed to call. For example: you decide to go to the Geico website to see if they can offer lower car insurance. You just engaged them and created a relationship. They can now contact you for the next 18 months. And lastly, non-profits (churches, political groups, charities, etc...) are allowed to contact you. In all cases above, you can ask that they stop calling you, and they must comply within 30 days. But most people either A) don't answer, B) hang up, or C) yell at the caller and in the process of A, B, or C never actually ask to be removed from their call list. Submitting the request in writing is even better, but no one does that.
