This irritant tried dialing on 12 April and abandoned the call during the voice mail greeting. I am reasonably sure it's one among other illegal sales calls I've charted this month, hawking vehicle service contracts as mentioned prior. Comments linked below are for other numbers I suspect were used by the same creeps in the past week.
I also got a call from this number which I didn't answer; ID showed Frazier, CO. I tried calling back and it said that my call could not be completed as dialed. Blocked the number!

Sure, and "they" could be your pharmacy, your supermarket, your retailers, your DMV, the USPS, Amazon, eBay, Facebook, and anyone on "social media" who coaxed your data from you.
"The police" have yet to investigate abandoned sales calls as a crime and the "phone company" cannot restrict your inbound calls without your consent. Neither can do much when the telemarketer changes Caller ID every week. Meanwhile, proper channels like the FTC and your state AG are being overlooked.
I'd love to know how that myth got started. With mobile phones being in the majority now, the illegal callers should be eager to follow the money. I don't believe they care who answers on what device so long as they score a sale.
