Mentally unbalanced man who rented a room in a house (that he doesn't even own) to my family member has been making repeated, harassing phone calls to my family members at all hours of the day and night (8 times in 1 night!), threatening legal action against all of us for the actions of our family member during his tenancy (for which we have absolutely no responsibility - no cosigning for our family member, etc.). This insane man threatens all sorts of things against all of us unless we pay him a large sum of money. This totally unhinged man has found out where we work and calls us at work with his threats! He has threatened to call our employers directly and report us to our bosses for not paying our bills! He harassed and threatened one of my elderly relatives all night with repeated threatening voicemails until he managed to extort $900 from my relative the next day. We have found out that this man has a pattern of leasing rooms in the house that he does not even own, then picks a fight with the tenant within a week of entering into the lease and locks the tenant out of the property, then charges the tenant for huge lease termination fees and late fees - he has done this at least 5 times in the last 2 months. If you receive a phone call from this man, ranting and threatening at you about a lease that one of your family members entered into, the best thing you can do is hang up on him (there is absolutely no getting a word in edgewise with this unbalanced man), have his number blocked on your phone, and file a restraining order against him. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GIVE HIM ANY MONEY for a lease that one of your family members was stupid enough to enter into - this insane man has found himself a great way to con people out of money, and the chain needs to be broken.
Sounds like a horrible situation but hadn't you better report this to the police? 800 notes is just a user driven forum designed to help people determine who has called. Since you seem to know who this is, it may be a good idea to file a police report.
I agree with Pudge on this. File Police reports for harassment. And let your employers know what is happening so they can file reports also. Extorting money from your relative is also a crime BTW. Extortion and fraud.
Was his last name Bell by any chance? I replied to an ad with that number on CL and the guy lost his cool in email just because I declined interest (the hyped-up ad wording should have warned me off). In email, he started using the F-word and all sorts of crazy taunts, over nothing I'd actually written. Just a weird scene.
