Call back gets, "Person you have called is on another line. You may continue to hold or press any key to leave a voice mail message." No matter what you do, the call will terminate in a busy signal. There's no voice mail and no waiting. This is the epitome of a SCAM. The caller is deliberately HIDING. Posts on Mrnumber.com report it as spam. Clearly a number you should block.
Called our vacation home at 6:15 Friday September 4. I answered and after a moment a male voice asked if it was me. I said yes, tell me who's calling. The line went on hold so I hung up. Calling me by name suggests it's a legitimate call so it probably is DirecTV.
I answered because I Googled the number and it is a Direct TV third party company that calls on their behalf. I wanted to see what they were offering. By the way they are not permitted to show "Direct TV" as the caller since they are a 3rd party (I asked about that). They are offering discounted Showtime or other premium channels for limited number of months. I don't mind answering because a few years ago we got NFL Sunday ticket very cheap and was hoping we were eligible for that again but not the case this time. If you are a Direct TV user they are allowed to call. Don't be so hard on them they are just doing their job and trying to make a living and sometimes what they offer is a good deal. So many people are paranoid about getting calls they think everyone is a scammer which is not the case with this particular number.
Your argument is ridiculous on its face. If they call you, and all you have is a phone number and you agree to something, how often do you think you will have NO recourse if the other party deceives you? answer: never!
