They call all the time and when my voice mail comes on they say nothing. They need to be reported to the feds! I have no reason for a debt collector to call.
Margaret, if you do not owe please don't worry about it, and by all means - do not talk to them. They will not listen to reason and they will only upset you further.
I also do not owe a penny and they called me yesterday. Many years ago our names wound up on call lists that continue to be sold and then resold, even after (at least in my case) 1. my debts were paid, and 2. the Statute of Limitations has long since run out. If you are nice enough to provide proof you don't owe, the calls will temporarily stop, only to resume 3-4 months later by another Collection Agency asking for the same "debt".
I can only surmise they continue to do this to people because IT IS WORKING. So do not talk to them!
I kept detailed records of all my finances and I consider myself immune to any kind legal action. I strongly advise anyone reading this who does not owe to do the same...
I consider these people to be cockroaches; they're not really harming me but they are ugly and disruptive. I don't know how to get rid of them so I am trying to learn how to live with them.
Calling me once a week now. Sent me a letter detailing the "Charged off" debt from 2003 (<$100). Wow, I can't believe these scum bags would actually bother. Obviously a few people are stupid enough to pay.
They also seem to have learned a new spoofing trick: Caller ID on my call this morning read,
"Phone Call"
971-304-0328
Of course, I didn't answer and my system didn't even register it as a missed call. I added the number to my Call Blocking list but am wondering if it will be able to block it if it's not being recognized as a call at all?
Thank you for you wonderful research and information! I may send them a "Cease and Desist" letter and report them to the FCC for spoofing their calls.
