Thanks for the info, Slim. So, there aren't any sensors. My apologies if I offended anybody by calling them a sensor. But, somebody deleted my post and others. Somebody had the capability to do it. I don't understand why they were deleted....basically all they said or implied was that this person's method of getting his message out is an effortless, cheap and quick way of doing it and some people, including myself, do not like getting them. And, I don't understand what my and Sue's posts were so bad to get thumbs down. Can anybody enlighten me on this? I would appreciate it.
I did not read the posts that you say were deleted, but I will see if I can help you with some clarity.
The rule of thumb is that when it comes to reports on political calls, the cold, damp facts are enough. The problem is that when it comes to calls in an election year, opinions and conjectures about political parties, beliefs and the character of the politicians create a compulsion for other posters to answer – and for trolls to do their usual troll thing of just trying to tick anyone off. For example:
Factual Post: “Senator Bilbo calling with a recorded message. I hung up and blocked”
Opinion Post: “Senator Bilbo calling with a recorded message. I don’t like Bilbo’s method of getting his message out in an effortless, cheap and quick way, and I am not the only one. I hung up and blocked”
That is pretty mild for an opinion post, believe me! But it does express an opinion, and is both a slap at the long-suffering Senator and a nifty piece of propaganda for what it implies about the Senator and any of his possible supporters.
Here’s how I see it: On this site, the Facts are Sufficient. When my Aunt Nellie gets a call from 972-502-9155 or sees it on her Caller ID, all she needs to know is that Senator Bilbo called with a recorded message. Done. If he calls again, she can listen or not. She has the info she needs to decide to listen or block.
If Aunt Nellie reads the opinion version, being one tough old bird she will be compelled to answer in either support of the poster or to basically flame the poor guy over a low fire. It would not be pretty. No matter what, now there are now two opinion posts and the gloves are off and we going to the races. Every person checking the number will be driven to share their unique views. Then the trolls and the downfall of Civilization. And the views are never unique.
Facts are Sufficient. Especially in threads that are concerned with political calls. Feelings can run high when it comes to politics, amplified if you know what I mean. The more we keep to the facts, the better the site works. Cuts down on the perceived need for people to tag up other people’s posts. Cuts down on the graffiti, and you know, I like a clean house. Peace.
B-Edwards. Thank you so very much for your explanation. I had no idea where to find the rules and got my education from what I saw others doing. I apologize profusely to anybody who I might have offended and if you have the capability to delete my posts, by all means do it. I would if I could. If anyone else having the authority to give me a thumbs down, please do it. I was wrong and deserve it. Thanks again.
No worries - don't be hard on yourself, heat of the moment and all that. Like I say, due to the nature of political opinion, the regulars on the site are being pretty rigorous (and picky) about trying to keep those posts down to a dull roar. So what goes in other threads can only give you a rough idea of the TOS.
Like I say, I did not see your original posts, it looks like they were held for Admin to look at and decide. There is a perception that this election will be a watershed, and so feelings that are strong are amplified.
The important thing is that you got a call and came here and reported what you learned - one of the best weapons we have against scam calls is the people who get involved, learn about the scams and then help other folks. Keep coming back!
Please see my post below in answer to Jerry. Might help you get a handle on "behind the scenes", which is not much of a secret when you get right down to it. //
