The same company, Danny Marie (something) Solutions just called, but from a different phone number from Plano, Texas: 214-473-5601, and gave another number to call: 888-794-3848. The recording said they are a debt collection company. I pay what I owe when it's due, so I suspected right away it's a scam, and I'm glad I found this site to confirm it.

I posted the message above. I listened to the message on my phone again, and the name of the company given by the recording does sound like Dynamic Recovery Solutions. Whoever the speaker was made it sound like Danny Marie Cover Solutions, speaking really fast and not pronouncing the words the way they should be pronounced, I guess to make the name unidentifiable.

I have to wonder why an allegedly “legitimate “business would need so many phone numbers to call out on?

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
