Called twice today (local number for me) left no message first time second time only a few seconds of background noise that sounded like a boiler room.
Called today saying they were from the American Chamber of Commerce....was real bossy about obtaining information.... I knew something was up and told her that I will not answer her questions until she answered mine...she freaked out and just stuttered through "Have a nice day"....
Googled it and found out that the BBB has reported and is aware of this scam. They are trying to get as much information on you as possible. The information this lady had was only what I have out there to begin with.
Got I call at work. After I answered the phone stating my store name he very brusquely asked is this.... I said yes, preceded to give my location.. incorrect, city ...incorrect , I kept asking who it was. He said updating for chamber of commerce and just kept talking over me. I said...I don't think so and just kept repeating # of employees and owners name, I said don't think the chamber of Commerce would send someone so rude...he kept talking and then hunmg up on me.

Once this information has been gathered the scammers use this information for more targeted spear phishing attacks against the company in a variety of scams including phony invoices and scams in which company employees are lured into clicking on malware infected links in emails that appear to be quite legitimate due to the large amounts of accurate and relevant information contained in the email
