979-307-5546 just called at 248PM today, Saturday. It was the Fraternal Order of Police, Texas Lodge, or rather a telemarketer for them. The Texas Attorney General web site lists this organization as an example of telemarketing scams. I did talk to the guy and let him give his spiel. When he asked for a donation, I asked
"Is this an actual charity."
"Uh, no, It is.. " (spiel about helping cops)
"So, it is really a labor union organization, right? Donations aren't tax deductible, right?"
Uh, well, ...(same spiel repeated word for word)
"what percentage of each donation do you keep?"
"Uh, well, uh, I can tell you that the FOP will get no less than 10% of all monies collected."
"So you can put 90% in your pocket?"
"Uh, no, uh"
"How much money do you make from each donation"
"Uh, uh, I really don't know. I'm just in training here. Would you like to speak to my supervisor?"
"No. I want you to tell how much money you make from each donation. If you don't know that, you are probably too stupid to be doing this job."
"Uh, well, uh can you donate today or not?"
"Why would I donate to an organization when their representative doesn't even know how much money he makes?"
"Ok. Well, maybe you can donate during our next fund raising period."
"I wouldn't count on that if I were you."
He hung up. Next time, I'll probably just not answer, or wil block the number. This time, I just had to give this guy a hard time.
979-307-5546 called again asking for donation.
I told the guy I've already made my donation
He asked when
I told him April 15th this year
He asked who the donation was made to
I told him IRS. It should cover his needs.
He hung up )
