Caller (recording) claims to be "James Caston" and states that the call is intended to be for (no one in particular) to inform them of some nonsense about being charged by the us treasury and that I must appear before a magistrate judge or a grand jury. Apparently it is important that I call the caller back at the same number that called me so they could help me avoid a bigger penalty. Funny, they had all this info, except the most crucial one being my name. Never mentioned my name in partial or in whole, which for me is a major tip off for fraud, specially given the seriousness of the supposed charges.
I don't return calls anymore unless it is actually personal or business related. I was definitely more amused by the fact that this call came shortly after notification that the IRS had accepted our return and there were no issues. I was also amused at the vague use of information, or rather the complete lack of viable information when they said this call is to inform you of blah blah but never once said my name or anything relating to me directly. Meaning the call could be picked up by anyone and it would apply. Was an amusing way to pass a few moments in an otherwise uneventful afternoon!
