I got this call after renewing my pain meds for chronic condition. First started trying to sell me cream then asked for information so they can refill my Rx. I hung up. This is a scam just ignore the call.

I'm so sorry you had to go though something like this but happy you were smart and saw right through their B.S.. Believe it or not I have been getting calls from these people & I've had a go round with them & I'M A DOCTOR. Trying to tell me pain pills are bad for my liver. Not if they don't contain APAP (tylenol) they're not. She really tried to sound like she knew what she was talking about. I tried to get her to tell me she would sell me a scrip for narcotic pain pills over the phone as that is EXTREMELY ILLEGAL as you must be seen by a physician to be prescribed a schedule II or III controlled substance which most moderate to severe pain medications are classified. I've had one such call and reported it to the police but never heard anything back. These people are hawking something like "Aspercream" or some such which could even be dangerous but in all likelihood is no more effective or dangerous than Vaseline, probably IS Vaseline hand cream or lotion.
I believe these are no more than random computer generated calls. The fact you'd just received a Rx for Percocet is simply a coincidence & they had no way of knowing about it such from medical records or prescription Rx records as these are confidential & if it were to be discovered a doctor, nurse or pharmacy allowed such information to be divulged the proverbial sh*t would hit the fan. I don't remember the name of the drug store chain which was suddenly closed down about ten years ago (one day they were in business & the next day they weren't) I only remember it was in the Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC area however, they were closed for selling information about patients medication history along with Medicare & secondary insurance information. It was some intricate scam & I'm always a little shocked to realize just how far some people are willing to go. You read about them in the paper after they've been found-out & it also makes you wonder how many are out there which haven't been found-out.
I just wanted to reassure you about it being personal. I don't think it is and I don't think you have anything to worry about. It is a good idea you reported it to the police though, just in case there could be something more involved.
I like to include my usual warning regarding phishing calls for calling lists. When you get calls which offer you the choice of opting-out by pressing one or two DO NOT DO IT! You are not opting-out of anything, think of it as OPTING-IN. When they do this they have no intention of taking you off of any calling list. They are collecting numbers which they turn-around and sell as verified active numbers which will lead them to an actual live person whom they can then roll-out their spiel for whatever it is they are selling. They sell these lists for top dollar as they are considered to be be much more valuable than just calling down a list of numbers. They offer the list for a certain period of time and guarantee a certain percentage of numbers to be accurate active numbers. The reason they continue to call you is to keep the list updated as people change their number, move etc., so to keep the lists "guaranteed" (FRESH?) so they have to keep calling. They must get big bucks for it since they put a whole lot of time into gathering numbers and maintaining the lists. To keep yourself OFF LISTS you should never click anything offering to OPT YOU OUT
