Received the same phone call, word for word, as Liz posted above. I figured out pretty quickly it was a scam and hung up on him. He called back 4 more times in the next 30 minutes. I reported the calls.
The caller had the same heavy South East Asian accent as the guy involved in the Wal-Mart Gift Card Scandal. He did not know I was a tax accountant when he tried to extort money of me. When the IRS calls, they are supposed to give their name and badge number and they do not negotiate criminal cases over the telephone. He evasive cited a IRS Code 501 which has nothing to do with individual taxes. Told me I owe $4,000 but I would lose in court and it would cost me $20,000 (how does he knows this in advance?) Then a woman called back from 917-554-4389 threatening to have me arrested in 72 hours. Bring it on.
Exactly the same as all the above. He stated he was Officer Eric Wilson ( very thick Indian accent....which does not go with the name!) - told us we were in trouble and if we didn't call back there would be legal action taken against us! I hope the police/government stop this as many seniors will be affected by it I'm sure....this is disgraceful and I hope they get caught soon!
Just received that call yesterday, claiming to be from IRS Crime unit. He called back 5 times because I kept hanging up on him since the connection was loud and statically, although, I could barely understand him during the last call.He had also a very heavy Indian or possibly Pakistani accent. Asked several times for his name and simply told him "WHAT? Can't HEAR YOU, WHO ARE YOU?" He sounded agitated that I could not understand him..lol. I asked for his phone number to call him back (which of course I didnt). He gave the same 202 239 2680 number which also showed up on the caller i.d., in addition to OUT OF AREA.
That alone was a warning, because 202 usually comes in as Washington d.c. - OUT OF AREA are many times blocked numbers, cells or out of the country. My teenage son immediately googled the number and found out about the IRS SCAM. Haven't heard back yet from these crooks, but I'm ready to have some fun if they call back.
