Today (April, 04 2014) at around 1:00 pm I received a telephone call at my home phone from a person (phone # 202-241-1299) impersonating as a representative of IRS officer with some IRS issues related to me. I told him that IRS sends letters first for any issues instead of calling on telephone and asked the caller if he was trying to scam me. He told me that I could hang up. I hanged up and then I called IRS on phone. I was informed by IRS that I have no issues with them. I then called the person at 202-241-1299 to check if that number is a valid number. I was connected with the person who threatened me that an arrest warrant has been issued against me because in my previous conversation I asked a police officer if he was trying to scam me. He threatened me that I would be deported to India (from my name he knew that I am originally from India), but I told him that I am an US citizen and cannot be deported to India. Then he tried to scare me with bad hindi words. I hung up the phone. Then he called me again and I told him not to call me and hung up again. He tried to call me again and again, but I did not answer.
Received numerous calls and messages from number above advising me that I was under investigation for tax fraud. Indian man identified himself as a member of the IRS fraud division. he asked for the name of the attorney representing me in the case. When I asked him how much I made and what is my social security number he became agitated and stated he did not work for me and that I needed to find an attorney quickly.
Got a call from this morron saying he was an IRS agent that we were on some list. I got so P O that I didn't even hear his BS story. Informed him I worked for the State Government for 28 yrs, and I know the IRS sends letters (certified) and does not call ppl personally. Makes me mad, cause some poor person may fall for this idiotic scam. This happened on August 29th, 2014. It sucks they haven't caught this MORRON yet!!!
Got the call from this number. Said he was from the IRS. I did not even let him speak after he announced he was from the IRS. I told him to take his Scam and shove it up his A** and hung up.
Luckily I read my local Police logs and found they were hitting a lot of phones in our town
This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). You can use the following template for your letter (more powerful!) or email:
I got a call from this number as well. My response was simple: I asked them what department they were in and extension, I told them I worked for the IRS and wondered why they were not following protocol. They hung up.
