Two big tipoff's that this is [***] call from someone claiming to be from the irs. 1) for me, it was an obvious recording that's starting in the middle - a gentleman with a very thick indian accent 2) i received the call from "washington d.C." at what would be 7pm in the evening. The irs's hours = 8am - 5pm only.
**i work for a cpa. It is a well-known fact that the irs will only communicate with you in writing initially, they will not call! In fact, if you call the irs when you are on hold they have an outgoing message warning of scammers that call and leave threatening messages. They emphasize the fact that they do not call & not to fall for it.
I got the same call as the above folks did. I have received a call similar to this a few months back.
I called the IRS in Nashville and let them know of the number which was calling me. Something needs
to be done about these SCAMMERS soon! Before some older person falls for this scam and looses EVERYTHING they have!!!!!!!!
Loved this post. Unfortunately, that is not likely to happen ... not the Bubba part, but the prosecution and imprisonment. Though taxes, especially on middle class taxpayers, are near all time highs, we get no government protection.

I received a message on my phone on 07/24 same as the above from the U.S. Treasury department saying to call back immediately. I called them back and they answered as U.S. Treasury department. I told the about my message and he said his name was David Smith. He said he needed my first and last name. When I told him I needed proof that he was calling from the U.S. Treasury department before I would give him ant info, he hung up.
