I was called today. Person said my brother was in car accident outside his house and had asked the guy to call me. He wanted to know my brother's name so he could tell if I "was a relative." I know my brother and he would call 911 not me, so I told the guy that I knew it was a scam and I hung up.
MAY 8, 2014 I was scammed, Hope this helps someone else to be more aware. I received a call saying my son was in an accident from a Hispanic male 203-260-7695, he told me my son hit his brothers BMW and his brother saw my son calling the cops he shot him. Your son is not badly hit but no cops can be called because my brother will be arrested for outstanding warrants, he would not tell me where to pick up my son till I gave him $3,000.00 for the repair of the BMW. After several minutes of more abuse by him, I said I didn’t have that kind of money that I worked for a living I’m not sure if I have $300.00. He said he would take that and follow up with me where to send the rest but I better leave work now and not hang up or tell anyone where I’m going and get to the bank – if the connection was lost he was just going to kill my son. I was so mixed with emotions I really didn’t know what to do so I wrote a short note to my boss and proceeded to the bank. I knew I had a cap on my account and I could not get $300 out in one withdrawal from an ATM. The guy was continuing to be rude and was yelling at me and then telling me to be calm. So I couldn’t get the 300 from the ATM and told him I had to go inside, he berated me some more and I moved out of the drive though and went into the bank. On the back of the withdrawal slip I wrote a note to the teller. Luckily for me the teller new about the scam told me he would be with me in a few minutes. He pointed at me to leave my phone at the teller’s window and brought me to another phone out of earshot and we called my son. My son of coarse was fine and at work. The teller then took my phone asked who was on the line, the guy said he was going to kill my son and the teller said “go ahead”. The terrorist hung up. The teller gave me a hug and the other tellers all came around and offered their support and a beautiful pink paper rose.
Yes I know I shoulda coulda woulda but it did work out and now I know I should have ask what was my sons name, what vehicle he hit the other car with and the notes I did leave why didn’t I leave my sons and husbands numbers to call them? I’ve learned my lesson. But then….
I call the non-emergency Police number and they didn’t take my name or the number the guy called me from or my number. Just yeah it’s been happening and they use throwaway phones. But I think they should have at least made me think they were taking notes and what if they could trace his phone number now they don’t have the information. If they could have seemed a little interested I might feel a little more reassured, but instead I feel abused again.
So scammed twice in one day hope this is it for some time. :}
May 14 2014I was called by this number also today and was told my older brother was in a accident in front of this spanish accent guy's house. He kept asking me what my brothers name was and i said if he's there then you should be able to tell me. He went thru the same speech about an accident and asked my brothers name again. I told him i don't know what kind of game your playing here. He then said well he'll probably just end up dying and hung up. I promptly called my brother he answered and said every things fine no accident, I then google the number and saw this and figured i had to reply to post. This guys a loser !!!!!
Go back to the police station in person and tell them what you just wrote here. You've been the victim of a serious attempted extortion. Give them the details and at least they can go to the media and let people know what happened!
