Go back to the police station in person and tell them what you just wrote here. You've been the victim of a serious attempted extortion. Give them the details and at least they can go to the media and let people know what happened!
Same thing. Only it was my dog and he asked for 1,000. He said she was badly hurt and would kill her. I called 911 and they simply say "disregard". I am going in person to Police station. Not letting this go.
This JUST happened to me. At first he said brother and I said i don't have one and then he said, no I said Father and then I told him my dad passed away. He then apologized and said wrong number. I'm so glad I googled this because it felt odd to me.
Same exact thing happened to me, only I knew it wasn't plausible since it would take my father 3 days to fiddle with his phone and find my cell phone number (he's not tech savvy). So if he could have given them my cell, he could have called me himself. Plus the call came from Bridgeport, CT, which is a town over from me and my dad lives in another state.
He initially said "brother" but when I told him I didn't have one he said, "No, your father." I simply asked the guy to tell me my father's name and he couldn't so I hung up. Was very surprised to see so many people reporting the same phone number. You'd think they'd use a new burner phone more often.
I was called today. Person said my brother was in car accident outside his house and had asked the guy to call me. He wanted to know my brother's name so he could tell if I "was a relative." I know my brother and he would call 911 not me, so I told the guy that I knew it was a scam and I hung up.
