I was called today. Person said my brother was in car accident outside his house and had asked the guy to call me. He wanted to know my brother's name so he could tell if I "was a relative." I know my brother and he would call 911 not me, so I told the guy that I knew it was a scam and I hung up.
This man, called my brother in law with the SAME STORY, said he had us at gunpoint and that we hit the back of his BMW and if he did not come up with $2000 he would shoot and kill us, flat out extortion.

Hey. I just got this call right now. I then googled the phone number knowing that there are a lot of scams happening daily. Even though the person using this number should be stopped, I'm glad it happened to everyone else because that was super sketchy. I really hope the police stop being lazy and actually try to find this person.
I got the same exact call on Sunday 5/25/14 - same M.O. He said my brother crashed his car into his brother's SUV and that my brother was hurt and he was holding him hostage unless I came up with $3,000. He told me not to hang up and proceeded to yell and curse at me the whole time in a thick Hispanic accent. 203-260-7695 is the number. He eventually got so frustrated with me and my boyfriend that he hung up on us. We called my brother to make sure he was okay, he was.
The piece of scum's name is Tony, and it's assumed he's using a throw-away cell phone. When I called the police department, they were pretty nonchalant and didn't take any of my personal information. This guy will definitely get his due one of these days. All it takes is one very angry person.
GO To the police station in person and tell them what you told us. Make them pay attention. Go to the media. This is a serious crime. This is a serious crime.
