A Darien person was contacted on Wednesday by a person claiming to be from Alabama and who claimed to be soliciting donations for fallen police officers. When the woman questioned the authenticity of the man’s purported organization, he hung up, police said.
The number, 203-347-3092, came out of Middletown, Conn., and is FREQUENTLY ASSOCIATES WITH POLICE SCAMS, police said.
I answered and some guy with a southern accent said it was Jack Campbell from the National Police. I said,"Oh that's nice. You should try calling someone stupid enough to believe that," and hung.

Just got the call. Unlike earlier calls to others, the caller ID did not name anyone. I let the answering machine take the call. No message, but there appeared to have been a person at the other end who hung up quickly.
