I just received 3 phone calls this morning (similar to what has been described in John Doran's post above). Some details about the call:
- The representative had a heavy Indian accent
- The IRS sent two notifications to me by mail that I had never received
- I apparently have an "active warrant out for my arrest" and would be arrested in 30 minutes if I did not comply with their directions
- They would not provide any details as to my alleged tax discrepancies
- They insisted that I was not allowed to discuss my case directly with the IRS
I eventually told them to send the cops and that I'd fight the case in court.
I received 4 calls from this number and I answered the call during 4th call. Guy with India accent over the phone tells me I will be arrested for IRS violation. I ask him what's my address and he couldn't provide me so I said go [***] yourself and I am going to call police to arrest your sorry [***], I then hung up. Definitely a scam call
got a call from this number and a lady called jessica left the following message
(( This message is intended for mohammad a business and this is jessica with them from the internal revenue service sent from you that a warrant has been issued against you name and their reference give me a charges which I'd like you to be aggressive needs 22 before anything ... strong urge you to give me a call and my department callback number ledge is (203) 485-6441 I repeat it's (203) 485-6441 have a great day.))
many thanks to the person who posted what said. i have hearing issues and i had to play the recording twice to understand what jessica said -- i couldn't understand the name of the person she was claiming had the arrest warrant issued against them. she sounded like she was calling from a moving vehicle and the windows were rolled down - there was so much background noise. apparently the call went to my cell phone sometime yesterday but i only found it today [friday, february 27].
I received 2 calls this morning myself and a voicemail was left for me from this number and I was told that I had an arrest warrant on 3 counts of IRS violations. This woman with the most horrific English accent (who had this heavy Indian accent trying to talk fast NICE TRY) was letting me know "this is a serious situation".
Then I said I don't understand one comprehensible word you are trying to say, so she passed me off to her "superior" another Indian speaking male who pretended that my IR violations were dire and I was to "OWE" then $850. To which my friend grabbed my phone and told them there were 3 arrest warrants each for both indian scammers that we're recording this call & for them for breaking immigration laws trying hard to scam people with bad English accents, cheating folks out of their hard earned money.
And Voila he hung up on them. And to better business bureau and consumer affairs they have been reported to.
**Be careful folks its tax time and these scammers are looking for weak targets, don't let them win!!!** REPORT THEM ALWAYS REPORT THEM.
