I just received 3 phone calls this morning (similar to what has been described in John Doran's post above). Some details about the call:
- The representative had a heavy Indian accent
- The IRS sent two notifications to me by mail that I had never received
- I apparently have an "active warrant out for my arrest" and would be arrested in 30 minutes if I did not comply with their directions
- They would not provide any details as to my alleged tax discrepancies
- They insisted that I was not allowed to discuss my case directly with the IRS
I eventually told them to send the cops and that I'd fight the case in court.

Just got the absolutely the same experience as chris.
Once she asked me who prepared my taxes, I told her I prefer to wait for the "letter" they sent and hang up.
There should definitely be someone chasing those guys as innocent people might suffer some terrible consequences.
