called here in washing state, thanks to caller id I can ignore them. what a nuisance! wont give to any charity ,over the phone or that sends unwanted junk in the mail. hard to know who is legit now days. some poor souls must fall for it or they would stop.
When was the last time you were called by a local photography studio? How about an insurance sales pest? Someone selling time share vacation properties? For me its been more than a decade. Those are all legitimate businesses who used telemarketing to increase sales. Putting my phone number on the list stopped those calls. THAT's the good the Do Not Call registry does.
These days most unwanted calls are scammers. For them the DNC list law is one more law to break.
Not-Michael's right. The Do-Not-Call list is for legitimate businesses who play by the rules. They honor the list, and do not call us if we have put them on it. So it does help. But most (not all) of the obnoxious calls we're now getting are robo-calling scammers who don't care one whit about any list or following any rules.. And because they manage to snare enough ignorant, uninformed and/or trusting people (especially the elderly) to scam successfully, they keep calling. In other words, the illegitimate scammers/jerks who we report don't care if their name is on any list. Our only defense against them is 1) a call blocker. and 2) writing our reps in Washington to urge them to do something about this invasion-to-our-privacy-gone-wild situation. (Because I have posted this before and have been asked what phone blocker I use, it is Phone Tray Pro, and I love it. But there are many kinds on the market, and all of them will help!)
