Received the same call which wanted my computer to be turned on. So I went along with the scam and then blasted a very fowl langauge assault.
The party hung up, they keep call 3 so far today. The priblem is, I don't have a house computer. :)
Called today - caller ID said "Naples, Florida". I did not recognize the phone number, let my answering machine handle it (as I do for all callers I do not recognize) and, of course, no message was left.
Simple, basic rule of thumb - if the call is unexpected and you do not recognize the caller ID number do not answer the phone.
Have received a number of calls for the past two days from this number. No one answers when I pick up and speak, then it will disconnect as I wait for a reply.
If you keep picking up calls from this number (and speaking) you will probably continue to get calls. Don't answer in the future and never call back an unknown number.
Phishing calls such as these are probably looking for live numbers to add to their scamming database.
The caller from this number had a foreign accent so thick that I could barely understand what he was saying. I did get out of him that he was allegedly from Windows and was calling to tell me that my computer was hacked and that someone was conducting illegal activity on my IP account! I hung up at that point. What a scam. The caller ID simply said "Florida" when this call came in.
