Got the call from "WAMU" at 6pm on a Saturday (2-12-2011) to say my card was locked and asking for my 16-digit account number to unlock it. WAMU doesn't exist and if they did they wouldn't call on a weekend evening and use a creepy recording to get my info. So I played along and entered bogus numbers, which it said weren't recognized as existing accounts. Hung up and called back. It rang for quite some time, then I got the recording that you get from Sprint if your phone is shut off - that guy saying the call cannot be completed. Reported it to the FCC and my local Attorney General.
Got a call from this number, with a computerized message that they locked my BECU account..and press 1 to be transferred to their security department. I hung on the line and it hung up on me.
The call was to my cellphone.
Got a call on my cell phone from this number with a computerized message stating that if I had been have trouble with my locked Boeing Credit Union account, press 1 to be transferred to their security department. I did the same thing Ryan did and wait on the line. Their system ended the call.
Called and said account was locked out then when pressed 1 got voice mail. This # comes up as a insurance company in Florida. Most likely a fake random caller ID # and some scammer who would ask for your personal info (SS#, Birthday, bank account #'s, etc) to "verify" your account and say they are from a bank.
I had the exact same experience as Ryan and Dee, and if you look at our messages they are all within a few minutes of each other. I decided to call the number back and it took me to another recording stating that it was some sort of health care facility and they didn't answer because it was after hours...but I had JUST received the phone call. Very suspicious.
