Caller asked for me and call was forwarded to my line. I answered and they ask if I was ****. I said yes and then they hung up....not feeling good about this.
'Just got a call from this number and asked if I was (first and last name). I did not confirm. Instead, I asked who is calling and he said a Mark Anderson (with a strong accent). I asked the purpose of the call. He, again, asked if I was (first and last name). I did not confirm. I said "I can barely hear you. What is the purpose of this call?" He then hung up. Will never confirm anything if I don't recognize the number or the caller.
A woman with an Indian accent called asking for one of our employees. Upon further inquiry, she said she had medical documents for her. I received a similar call from a California number for a different employee this morning, so I was ready. When I replied, "I cannot say," it actually tripped the woman up for a moment (LOL). She then asked if I could confirm whether ____ worked here or not. I replied with my favorite phrase, "I'm not authorized to release that information." Then she hung up. My guess is that this organization is mining information from the internet (social media sites) and calling to verify the information they find so that they can sell it. Do not give an inch. They are counting on your instinct to be polite. The next time I receive a call like this, I will reply, "I'm sorry, I've been instructed to screen calls originating from this number." How's that for polite?
I think they're trying to get you to say yes. I did not confirm it was me and they kept asking me questions. DO NOT SAY YES or they'll tape record you and probably use it for unscrupulous dealings.
A man w/ heavy accent has called our work place 17 times from this number asking for employee's that do not work here. They are calling for Med Express which we are not affiliated with and when you try to tell him that he hangs up.
This number just called my office and a man asked for me (mispronounced my very common name) in an Arabic accent, and I think I may have responded "yes" this is Ohio, but I'm not sure. I called the number back and a woman answered, I before I could get a full sentence spoken, she hung up. I called my bank and cancelled my cards, and notified my cell phone and utility companies what has happened.
