received a call/left voicemail message 11/11/12. Identified as Internal Revenue Service, said a lawsuit and warrant is being filed this day against my spouse SSN.
Received call 11/10/14, which appeared as: 800-829-1040 on phone ID. The 800 number belongs to IRS, however they left, 571-292-8457 as a callback number. The message left was a (male foreign sounding voice) saying I needed to respond to the "five criminal offences in my name" and I needed to get info regarding "the current lawsuits against me" and left the number 571-292-8457 as the call back. However, when I called the 571 number back the person hung up! WTF?

I received this call today saying a federal lawsuit will be filed tonight and I have a unbailable warrant for five criminal offenses related to my taxes. I contacted a close friend who works for the IRS who informed me that this a scam that has been going on for months and to not respond to them. If you think that you owe taxes, she recommended calling the IRS help line at 800-829-1040, which is the number that the scammers spoof on the caller id to make it look legit. The IRS always makes first contact by mail or in person depending on the situation, and would never ask for money via paypal.
