Whew, just got one of these phone calls. Though from the onset I was pretty sure it was a scam, still a bit of a heart-stopper all the same! Will be sending this information on my Representative.
My heart goes out to those who may receive this type of call that may not have the ability to recognize it as a scam.
Call came up with no number when incoming, but person left a message with # 1-571-339-3012. Man with a VERY heavy Indian accent. Claiming to be "Officer Keith Anderson" from the "IRS Tax Evasion office". Said there was a petition being filed in federal court and that this was a courtesy call, and if I had any questions to call back. Called back using call blocker, got 4 rings and then a disconnect noise. Interestingly, when I called back with an unblocked number from a different phone, it rang many times (sounded like it was being bounced and redirected) and the someone finally answered (a woman, again with a heavy Indian accent) IRS office, how may I help you?" I actually got her name (Amy Johnson), supposed badge number, and then asked for the 800 number to the IRS (which she actually gave me) so I could verify her identity. I said "thank you" and she said "you're welcome" very quietly. Subsequent calls have rung and rung, finally going to the disconnect sound or just blank air. I'll try again just to give them a hard time.
I got received the same phone message but my caller, also heavy indian accent was William Rogers, exact same message that JustMe received. I reported the phone number to the IRS on their Treasury Agency website (sorry, I don't have the website URL, but you can Google it) there's a specific place to report the information, and I would strongly advise everyone who receives these calls to report them so they can shut these people down.
Same thing as the two above. But he said his name was Officer Mark Robins, maybe Robinson, hard to tell with the thick accent.. I reported ithttp://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact.shtml. My parents got a message on their machine also.
got a message on our message machine last night. a man with a thick accent said he was from IRS tax evasion. I tried the number this morning, but no one picked up. Schmucks!
Got the same message on my cell phone voice mail. Ofc. Kevin Miller re: Legal Services and Restitution Dept. petition for tax invasion being filed in Federal Court. This is nothing more than a SCAM!
