Whew, just got one of these phone calls. Though from the onset I was pretty sure it was a scam, still a bit of a heart-stopper all the same! Will be sending this information on my Representative.
My heart goes out to those who may receive this type of call that may not have the ability to recognize it as a scam.
Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
My son was called, man with Indian accent mispronounced a common easy name, asking for me.
My son took message, but was dubious.
It was concerning at first - I'm so glad I could look it up and find out so easily and quickly that it was a scam. It clearly was, but having it confirmed like this takes away any lingering worries. THANK YOU!!!
Same - heavy Indian Accent - not bothering to call back. Received call from "Officer Steven Smith" from "investigation department" of the internet (internal) revenue service. Purpose of this call is to let you know that there is a legal petition notice regarding a tax evasion. This case is about to get registered in the Federal courthouse before goes to courthouse call 571-339-3012.
