I got a call on my work cell and the message said by phone number had been selected to win something and I had to press 1 to receive a "promotional gift" but I didn't press anything.
I called this number back 5 times, and each time I asked to be taken off their list, they immediately hung up. I never even got a chance to give them my Toronto based Rogers cell phone number.
Then I tried a different tactic; I called back and let them tell me aobout their offer and then asked how many times in a day did they hang up on people who asked to have their number removed; what was his personal record. I don't know if he was kidding, but he said his highest was 300 in one day. He also said they don't maintain the list of numbers and that the calls are only forwarded to them, and that he didn't know how to contact who controlled the list. Bottom line - still don't have my number removed from their list and if they're based outside Canada our DNC list has no authority over them, and a non-resident can't register with the US list.
Got this call while in class so I didn't answer... was worried it was important but thankfully doesn't sound like it is...
I hate pointless calls like these!
