I have an unlisted, unpublished phone number and been receiving calls from this number also, which shows up on caller ID as Gladys Tolentino. It is a male caller with a foreign accent--Indian, Middle Eastern maybe. He says he's calling about my computer. I've asked him to stop calling. When I called the number back there's a message that the mailbox is full. When I don't answer the phone, he won't leave a message--just hangs up. The last time he called (this morning at 10:45) I told him the call was being traced. He responded in some foreign language and then shouted SHUT UP and hung up. I guess I'll have to block this number, and take DC Resident's good advice. Hope this #@&^!#$ gets caught and prosecuted.
718-588-6595 called and said my Windows computer has a high alert problem and that she was from Microsoft and she could fix my computer if I downloaded a file (she would tell me where to download it from). I told her that my computer was a Commodore 64 using Basic and DOS. She asked me if I could go online to download the file for my computer and I told her that I would have to hang up because I had to use dial-up and log into AOL to get onto the internet and I couldn't be on the phone and the internet at the same time. She was trying to be very patient with me, and I wasted about 30 minutes of her time. Every time she tried to give me instructions I played a sound byte of a modem connecting sound and the telling her that I couldn't get to AOL. Eventually she began using profanity (with a accent) swearing at me and then hung up. I suggest that everyone should waste these people's time which will greatly reduce their percentages of successfully scammed people. Waste their time and have a laugh at their expense. See how long you can keep them on the phone. Act like you don't know how to do even the most basic things on the computer. Make them teach you how to even turn on the computer... then say... oh wait that was my TV... Let's start over...
