Caller I. D. was Bellaire, OH. Sounded like a real "boiler room" in the background. Wanted me to re up the factory warranty on the used Honda we bought a year ago. Already did an extended warranty through the dealer. How do these so-called insurance people know so much about my car? None of their business!
Quote:I guess the Do Not Call list doesn't work very well.
What everyone should know about the Federal Do Not Call List.
1. The DNC list is effective in reducing or eliminating calls from legitimate telemarketers - telemarketers who have registered with the FCC, and obtained the DNC list. The DNC list is NOT a call blocking service!
2. The DNC list is NOT intended to, nor can it do the following:
-- automatically block calls.
-- stop calls from:
--- Charities
--- politicians
--- survey companies
--- debt collectors
--- companies with which you have a "business relationship" in the last 18 months.
--- NON registered "telemarketers" (they do not subscribe to the list, and do not care about the list)
--- telespammers, telescum, and other criminals (these people ignore the law)
3. The DNC list is for use by private phones, not business phones
The DNC does indeed work, and is quite effective, if you consider the above statements.
If you wish more protection than that afforded by the DNC provisions, obtain a call blocker device, phone or app. Google is your friend.
If you wish to report a telespammer, report it to the FTC

If you give your number to anybody - retail, online etc they sell your number to telemarketers. The only way to 'track' these calls is if the telemarketer uses a caller name service, they provide you a way to get off that telemarketers list although they do not make the calls. I never answer a call that says 'out of area' or has no number or name - you know for sure those are scammer telemarketers that want to make sure you never know who they are.
I called the # back, pressed one and was off in two days. Works for me.
I read the DNC info in full when I signed up. A company selling vehicle warranties is not political, charitable, survey, debt collection, & I don't have any relationship with them & my number is private not business. This company is on violation and I guess I will be the one to report them instead of crabbing about how the DNC last doesn't work. A healthy fine to certain companies who don't adhere to the rules may stop them from doing it more. People just need to report them! Thanks for at least putting the info up!
