That is strange. I received a call from 804-271-1318 today. I was driving so I told them to call me back.

I was suspicious, so when I got home I dialed the 1-800 customer service # that is printed on my membership card and checked directly with Anthem BCBS. They advised me this is a legit Anthem BCBS number. It is from their Medical Imaging Department. I am getting an MRI soon, so this seems to jive. I will post back if I discover anything different. I will not post again if it was legit.

I guess my advice to anyone getting a call from Anthem is that if you have a procedure coming up, double check with Anthem via the official customer service number.

The caller was a rep from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield providing me with my confirmation number for a scheduled MRI as well as informing me of some competitive alternatives if I was willing to check into some competitive alternatives.  They advised me if I preferred  to dial them directly, dial 877-309-4886.

Again, they didn't ask me for any information but to confirm my birth year.  All they were doing was providing me the confirmation # for my appointment. As always, proceed with caution when receiving / responding to a call from someone you don't know.

I called back after they left me a "time sensitive" voicemail. This is Anthem calling to compare facility costs when they have been notified of an imaging procedure by your doctor. I was quite skeptical when I first called in. This is a legit number and are actually trying to help you find a cheaper option for your upcoming imaging procedure. Take the call.
