I received a call from 804-887-1200 and they left no message. I looked online to see if was a scam or spam and saw these posts. I called Bank of America hotline 800-432-1000 and asked if this was one of their numbers, as I have checking and an equity line of credit with BOA. The representative said they had no record of that number (as other post mentioned), and fwd it to their fraud division for further investigation. I offered to do a conference call with a BOA rep, but they felt it would not help, but to fwd any info to them via email if I called myself.
So I called, it asked for an extension (which I didn't have), so I waited on the line. Spoke with Spencer, from BOA Home Loans, Existing Customer Credit Divison. He asked info to verify my ID, but I didn't give my SS# or Acct#, but was able to with address and phone# on file. He was reluctant, but did confirm he was calling from Richmond, VA and expressed if I was uncomfortable with the call, I could stop at any of the BOA Banking Centers also. He wanted to discuss my equity line ending in aprox 1 year and options. Not so good customer service in my opinion, but that's my end, hope was helpful.
There is a very good chance it was not Bank of America, especially based on the other posts in this thread. Just because they say they are BofA doesn't prove they are. And if you call back a number they provide you with, you really have no idea who you're calling.
The only safe thing to do is find a legitimate BofA number and call that. I say this because I have gotten these calls both from BofA and Wells Fargo, wanting to discuss changes to my accounts.
I don't have any accounts with either of these banks. SCAM.
