You asked how we stop this. The answer is, unfortunately, we don't. I have a list of numbers such as this one a mile long. I've reported, I've blocked, I've tried to ignore. They have blocks and blocks of numbers which essentially constitutes thousands of numbers. They have the ability to "spoof" numbers so you don't see the correct information on caller ID. Their reason for calling changes with the wind...interest rates, political survey, and, once again, the list goes on and on. They're scammers and criminals. Losers that are too stupid and inept to get a real job. Don't make the mistake off punching any numbers thinking you're being removed. I did that a very long time ago and that's when the fun really began. Calls coming from Oregon, Washington, NY... FCC does nothing, Do Not Call list means nothing. So who is in charge of this crap? Somebody please tell me and I'll get on it!
I've gotten many calls. I just pressed the number to speak to a rep, who cheerily answered by saying, "Do you want to lower your interest rate?" But when I responded by telling her I want to be removed from the call list, she hung up on me!
These numbers come from autodialers. Their main purpose is to verfiy this is a number that belongs to a real person. They can use your number to text or call you with offers, or sell your number to the unscroupulous people who will. NEVER answer the call let it go to voicemail. That's the way I handle it. I rarely get a 2nd or 3rd call. If you answer you might get someone to talk to you, but they're scammers. They don't give a rat's a$$ whether or not they're nice to you. In fact, in most cases they're rude. When you answered you already gave them one thing they wanted. Anything else is a bonus.
Don't answer a number you don't recognize. If it's a legit call, the caller will most likely leave a message.
