Like JC Daniels says, these may have something to do with the fact that you posted something to Craig's List with your telephone number in it. I find that Craig's List has become the de facto source for less than savory marketers to harvest e-mails (somehow I no not - even if anonymized) and phone numbers. I too posted an ad to Craig's list, and just a two days later it started.
I received call this morning at 9:10am to my 503 area code cell phone. I did not answer as I did not recognize who it was from caller ID. They did not leave a message. I called back later with block caller ID. I received a recorded message with a voice that sounded like it was recorded off of those programs one can buy these days to voice whatever phrases you type in (like dragon's "naturally speaking").
The message indicated that the number was disconnected or no longer in service, etc. Though, anyone could record such a message on their voice-mail (god knows I have to foil creditor calls; which only works if it answers directly to voice-mail). Anyways, my opinion from my own experience and from what I have read here is that it is a random shady baseless automatic sales call.
These people call me several times a day. Something to do with Credit Card Machines. I called them back and it said the number was disconnected, so I called them back again, this time it said they do not take calls from private numbers, very interesting. I filled out my report with the Do Not Call Registry.
I get many calls from this number. CID says "Local Service". Answering provides a recorded message about credit card processing. Calling back says that it is a non-working number from pacific telecom...
got 2 calls last nite from this number (press 1 to accept call press 2 for text) caller id said local service, also got 1 call on my cell from same number.

This number just called me again. The caller ID read "Service Call" this time, last time it said "Local Service". I did not answer the call this time since I was away from my desk. So I do not know if it was the same scam as before. My Spidey Sense is tingling.
