The voice on the other side of this call said his name was "John Smith", how original. He definitely had an accent that sounded like it was from India. He was confirming/offering a subscription to a professional magazine that I am currently getting.
I sent these people an email telling them that they are harrassing people and making many people angry. Here is the reply they sent to me:

We are a third party outsourced call center working on behalf of various clients
to solicit different products.
We are in receipt of your email and would like to have your request addressed at
the earliest.
However, we need your telephone number / numbers for us to add to our internal do
not call list.We assure you we will not use the number for any purpose other than
updating our internal Do Not Call list.This, we believe, would help resolve the
issue immediately.
Hence, request you to kindly send in your telephone numbers to enable us to do the
needful and you have our word that you will not receive any further calls from us,
once the list is updated.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.
