Today the caller was asking to speak with James Gates. He didn't mention for what reason, although the odd thing is that I just recently got an email from PetSmart pet store with a rewards coupon, with none other than James Gates' name on it.
Like Tom, the caller, who asked for me by name, said she was with R/X Services asking if I still used or needed a cream for joint pain that my doctor had prescribed. I said "no" and was told my name would be removed from their records. I don't remember any such prescription. CID showed "Giesler Gareth," but the only Gareth Giesler I found is CEO of AmeriMark Direct, an online shopping catalog for women's apparel based in Cleveland, OH. Maybe there is more than one Gareth Giesler in the US. Something about this call does not seem to pass the smell test.
I received the exact same message and the female caller knew my date of birth and address! She claimed she got my info from a survey I filled out which I don't recall. Also cream for pain but she didn't know why I would need it. Would transfer me to another person if I wanted to pay my copayment for the cream. Definitely a scam. Concerned she has my date of birth because she can do much damage with that. Need to report this.
This is an ongoing medical insurance scam that was in the news last year when it started hitting the Military insurance system (TRICARE). They make it sound like your doctor has prescribed the pain cream or that you have already been using it when in reality neither are true. If they get your insurance information, they will get a doctor (not yours in most cases) to prescribe it then bill your insurance for $1000s for the unwanted and unneeded custom formulated creams. Since they have your date of birth contact your health insurance company to alert them of possible fraud and place fraud alerts with the three credit agencies.
