Just got a call from this number...and hung up. How annoying!! Usually with scams like this I'll answer the phone like they called a police department. That'll usually make them hang up fast. :-)
I have complained to the FCC but these calls continue using different numbers. Someone at the FCC needs to grab whomever owns any of those numbers and get tough. Several responders are correct in that they stop from one number and then start from another. Same identical message and voice.
They say their company is Card Member Services. Caller ID says 201-267-5646. They are phishing for financial and personal information. They claim that 500 national banks give them the information on people eligible to get their credit card interest rates reduced and that they have it in their database and need to confirm it, and that then they will call my bank with them on the line and get my interest rate reduced. Yeah, Sure! I finally got "James" there to give me the company's phone number. THEIR REAL PHONE NUMBER IS 480-745-2903 AND THEY ARE IN PHOENIX AZ--AND THEY SAY THEIR COMPANY IS HEADQUARTERED THERE. However, the Arizona Corporation Commission has no record of any such company. I reported them to the Do Not Call registry and will report them to my state Attorney General. My bank says they are a scam.
Yes, the number 480-745-2903 I called the first time I got a recording to call another number (480-745-2900) which recording says "has been disconnected." Tried 2903 again and immediately was answered by a young man and I got exactly what you described above. The number 201-267-5646 (Cell Phone NJ) showed up on caller ID yesterday morning and having received these calls for over a year now I told the man to f_ _ _ off. So now I've received about 8 calls from innocent people who have been given my phone number as the "Do-Not-Call Registry" to call to be placed on their list. I WILL find out what bogus company is behind this scam.
