I, too, received a call from this number today.
for whatever reason, I answered it and a very rude and persistent man told me that he couldn't take me off their call list, but call a mrs. wallace at a 601 number (HELLO - red flag - 601 is my area code) but, i called it and a very nice lady said she had gotten another call asking to be taken off the list. we chatted for a while and she did remember getting a phone call from a credit card company a few days ago.
well, i get home today and i have 3 very firm messages on my answering machine from people asking me to take put them on the do not call list.
i've reported this to the attorney general of mississippi, along with the federal trade commission.
beware - they are giving out YOUR phone number as the do not call request number.
I think they look for "live" answers. Once they know that someone (a real person) answers the phone they pass the number on to others. I think it's like "spam." They are always searching for "live" targets to scam.
NO matter how nice or polite they are --- if I have a call from ANY telemarketer I HANG UP! This is my way of dealing with this outrageous insult to my privacy!!!
