Same as others reported. Man calling (sounds like a machine) asking for donations for veterans. I say "sounds like a machine" b/c even though I declined as I am currently unemployed, he mentioned homeless vets. I care about vets, but what's it going to help them if I end up homeless right next to them?
There is no need to apologize. Anyone, and I mean anyone cold calling people for donations is a scammer. Even if they donate something to the charity it will be pennies on the dollar. These scum have been known to keep up to 98 cents out of every dollar just to feed their habits. If you want to donate, give directly to the charity (after checking them out first) not to some scummy crook in a cubicle in God knows where.
Like the other writer, the initial call was from a gentleman asking to donate to the Veterans Support Fund. Then he indicated some amount and said I cannot afford what he was asking, so I gave him a number and I asked him to send me information in the mail. He said he would, then ask me to hold while a young lady came on and asked for credit card information. I said, no I will mail a check as soon as I get the info from you. Now I am getting calls every day at least 4 times a day. I did not send them a donation. I would love to support the veterans, as I can imagine what it can be like after having family members in Vietnam, Iraq and other branch of the military. Veterans need our support but not to be scammed.
Yep, received call just after 8:00 am from this Vets Support Group similar to others very much the same MO as well. I asked for information be mail then I will file a complaint, USPS for mail fraud. Now I will block their number.
