This is a debt collector known as HRRC. However the supposed 'debt' they were calling about was not a legitimate deby because the provider who supposedly hired them hadn't submitted the bill to the insurance company first. I was aware of the date of the debt but had not received an EOB (explanation of benefits) from my insurance. When I phoned my insurance company to ask if they'd received a bill from the doctor who treated my husband at the ER, I was advised that the only claim they had for that date was the hospital bill itself. My insurance carrier contacted the provider who was billing me for the doctor's services (the one's who supposedly hired this HRRC) and found out that they had sent the WRONG GROUP number to the insurance company. HRRC was advised to BACK OFF until the claim gets processed and the CORRECT amount we may or may not owe is established via processing the claim using the correct info.
Call was from HRRC Health Revenue Recovery Center. They are allegedly a collection agency calling to collect a debt. That's what they told me when I called them back. I told them to remove the number from their system, stop making calls, put any communications in writing and they told me they were removing my number. Was a very polite black woman I spoke with who communicated her condolences when I informed her that my Dad, for whom she was calling, had passed away. Seems to be a professional debt collection service, though I don't believe he was past due on any medical debts, so be careful just in case they are scammers.
