Call received from them today, even though we're on do-not-call list - suspect they're the same scammers that called yesterday (with hidden caller id) claiming they were from "Windows Tech support", caller had Indian accent - told them to take us off their list yesterday, so that didn't work i guess
My wife got a call from these people today also. He had a heavy accent and was barely understandable. It was the same story: he was trying to get her on the computer to talk to it. It definitely sounded like a scam.
I didn't answer the call --- my new policy, but I see from other comments here, that I've gotten a call like this before. They said their server was getting hits from my computer and I have a virus. They wanted me to check some file on my computer.
I checked according to instruction and sure enough the log they directed me to was full of messages. I'm sure with a little help from my credit card they could solve the whole thing.
Utter bunk! Don't answer, and if you do, don't bite. You should have installed a good firewall (not just virus software) and quit opening those email attachments even if they are (or seem to be) from your friends. And quit with the "Forwards" of the cutsy jokes, etc which are SPAM address catchers. And that's the computer side, never mind the Indian-accented calls which appear to be from the U.S. but aren't.
Happiness is a phone that doesn't ring and a computer that IS secured. Oh, and I'm from Oregon too.
I reported a previous call earlier. They've called like 5 times in the last week. Usually they have a hidden number, but always the same scam. Indian accent, claim to be from "Windows Tech Support".
First time they called, even though I figured it was a scam I politely asked them to take me off their list. This time, after all their harrassment I finally lost my patience and screamed at them that if they call again I'm going to bring legal action against them.
