It's the end of July and well folks, this appears to still be going on. All the embedded online hooks are still floating out there... tempting people looking for work into giving up their credit card numbers. What in the hell is going on in North America that, with the patriot act et all... our governments (Canadian and U.S.) cannot put a stop to this crap? I mean, after doing extensive research, this google scamming is spreading like wildfire. What it people were using the spoofing technology to make threatening calls? Would our governments then take notice? Cause at this point... I can't believe this is still going on. Something must be done!
I also received 12 calls yesterday and 3 this morning. I actually talked to a BEN ADAMS, this morning, who stated that he works for Google ATM. I searched the number using Google while I talked to BEN and it came up as a number from Oakland New Jersey. It sounded like a home business set-up and a one time activation set-up fee of 1.95 (using your credit card of course) to give you a password and login name. You are then directed to a web site where you download programs that you need. I was a bit concerned and started to ask some questions when BEN asked me if I was still interested. I just asked him why I couldn't ask him questions and he hung up on me. If this was truely a Google employee, which I doubt, I think customer service is not one of their strong points
In the same boat. 13 calls yesterday and a 8am wake-up call today.
- I've been registered with Do Not Call since January
- I tried filing a DNC complaint but I got a message that it was filed May 28, 2009.
- I pressed 1 to talk to someone but no one answered
- I pressed 2 to get my number off the list but they continue to call
- I tried calling my wireless provider (AT&T) to see if I can block the number but no possibility.
Please let me know if there is anything else to try.
It's very annoying since it's my work Blackberry and I can't ignore it on a weekday!
I tried answering the phone this time. No one said anything but I heard background noise. I demanded loudly for them to take my number off the calling list. I repeated myself since no one responded.
I haven't received a call in over 5 hours. That's a record.
I am from Winnipeg. I received my first (so far) call at 8:28 a.m. This morning, May 29th. My cell was on vibrate, so didn't hear it. I searched for the number, because I don't know of anyone with this area code. I was shocked when I read all of the postings. I have no idea how they got my number.
Received several calls from these people... today they called me again, and I spoke to a lady. She called the company 'GoogleATM' (A Google search indicates they are a scam) wanting to teach me how to make money using Google and eBay.
I told them my phone number was on the Do Not Call list and that they were violating federal law by contacting me. She seemed ignorant of this information and proceeded to give me the sales pitch.
