Charities, along with some Survey's and Political calls, are exempt from the DNC, however, they can still get into trouble for not placing you on a internal DNC when asked, you can also check your states laws in regards. Some states have different laws in regards to the calls, which can differ from the federal.

Called regarding saving money or getting a one time 25% discount on our electricity bill if we were to change to another carrier. Since NJ made if allowable to choose your provider we get harassed with calls from these little up-shoot companies calling and telling you how much money you can save if you switch to them. In the past they have been sneaky and come to the door and talked to my son. Asked him to please just sign this paper saying they had talked to him about it. When my husband read the paper here it said we agreed to switch to their service. My son was only 18 & I don't know the legalities involved of how this works or if it was even legal for them to have him sign to change our electrical service being the service is in my husbands and my name. They're pests and it seems like the number of them is only growing. We tried moving to Atlantic Electric when the law first changed because their deal sounded too good to be true & you know what they say about things which sound too good to be true.........it was. The new rates were only for a year and then when this period was up it would be at a rate which turned-out to be higher than PSE&G. We switched back to PSE&G and have stayed there. We have yet to have heard from one of their competitors who would be cheaper than PSE&G in the long run.
Well, I forget the name of the company but they were somewhere in North Jersey & the man had a heavy New York City accent. There is still no way you can tell PSE&G not to give your name and number to these people and that you don't want to be called with offers from their competitors. I wish there was. It has to be them giving it out because when we moved to an apartment after hurricane Sandy destroyed our home and we had to rebuild we had a new address and phone number and did our best not to give it out and told the kids the same. Do NOT put our phone number on the Internet ANYWHERE. We only use cell phones and do not use a land-line anymore. With my husband, myself and seven children we have 9 phones on our contract with our carrier & somehow it only takes one persons number to get out there and then they know all the numbers on that contract.
