If you don't want to read the whole paragraph, here is the short story. Someone provided your number as a reference or home number for an online payday loan. Below are the details of my expirence.
This nuber is used by an online payday loan type company (you know those easy to et loans that have astronomical intrest rates sometimes calculated over 300 percent if not paid on time). I devised this infomation by answering after the second call within five minutes. Upon answering they asked to speak to a family friend who is not computer or internet savy and provided our number either as a reference or his home number in hopes of getting the loan. I'm not sure if this is an all out scam or an actual legit loan business, but as far as I'm concerned, all payday loan companies are scams.
This number has constantly called all day. I know nobody in New Jersey. How did they get my number? Are they bill collectors? Or is it some gimmick that somehow they get money if they keep you on the phone?
In addition to the information left above by me "Brian", and in response to a few of the other post. The "Do Not Call List" does not protect you from companies, you or someone else provides your number to nor does it protect you from marketing firms or other companies they own or hire to cantact you. So if you or someone else provides your number in an aplication, including an online form for things such as: college information, payday loans, and pretty much any other online aplication you fill in.
I used to work for one of these marketing firms. Even after the do not call list was established, we could still legaly contact people, we just passed it off as a survey. Moraly wrong, but still legal, and made money.
