Man with an Indian accent requested a manager who is not at this location. I inquired regarding the purpose of his call, and he claimed to have just spoken with his intended target. I replied, "Then you would know that he's not here," and hung up when he started protesting. He returned 15 minutes later, looking for another off-site manager in order to sell him something. (The background noise on his end made him even more difficult to understand.) I said that was considered a solicitation and transferred him to Purchasing.
Selling VoIP? That's interesting. I'm a technical guy who works for an integration company which sells/installs/services Mitel, Avaya, Shoretel and other VoIP systems and the calls were received on the Avaya system we have at work!
First call, I told them the person they wanted wasn't at this number and gave them a google voice number I knew would go directly to voicemail. They called that number, and left a 20 second voicemail, saying absolutely nothing, but you could hear they were in a call center with other people talking in the background. They then called back on the original number, and started asking for some made up names of no one that I had ever heard of before. "That person is not here", "No, never heard of that person before either" (really? you call back after being told the person you are looking for is not at this number, and just start asking for some random people?) I could tell it was the same woman, same Indian accent. When I asked what she wanted, she said it was a business call, and said she was with some VOIP company. I told her she had reached an internal help desk number, that we had no decision making powers, thanked her and asked to have the number removed from their list. She still tried to keep selling me something so I finally just hung up.
This number calls me several times a day, first they were calling as a VOIP company. Now they are claiming to be calling from Desk.com. I called Desk.com to find out if they do phone solicitations and to alert them that this bogus caller is tarnishing their name. I have told them to stop calling me and remove me from their list so many times I have lost count. It is always a male with an Indian accent, and I am given the name Patrick or Alex every time. They have called my extension, the main line, and they just won't stop.
