Said he was from Microsoft calling about my computer. He was apparently reading from a script and forgot to fill in the blanks. "My name is ______ and ....." He just paused. Thick accent.
I knew It was a scam from the minute I picked up, but I love messing with these crooks. He wanted to know information about my PC, what brand. I told him it was an IBM Selectric (tee-hee). He said he was unfamiliar with that model and could I give him an IP so he could remote in and repair it. I asked him where on my typewriter will I find an IP. He said no, your computer..... It was fun, but then he got nasty and hung up. Blocked.
Person with heavy accent and very limited command of English tried to tell me I had downloaded a virus via my windows operating system. Told him that was very interesting since I only used Apple products. Thanked him for eating my time with his fraudulent call, advised I would be reporting him to FCC and hung up.
Missed the call as phone wasn't by the bed but would not have answered since I don't know anyone in New Jersey. Typed the number into the search bar and got two results: this thread and Artisan Digital out of Kearny NJ. Either way, I would not have answered. The name "Artisan Digital" did not show up on my phone ID, just the town and state.
I, too received a call last night from 1201-991-8880, Kearney NJ. A man with a very strong accent, claiming to be from Microsoft, said that there was a problem with my computer. I said that I will call Microsoft to verify the call and nature of the problem since the company name was not showing in the ID display. He said that they (Microsoft) will not help me with the problem. I responded that I will be calling the FBI instead and ended the call.
