Woman with a thick accent called saying I had been selected to receive a federal grant in the amount of 9000 dollars, because I had never filed bankruptcy, or been arested. I asked her "What is my name?" She hung up. My guess is that she would have asked for info to steal my identity, or perhaps to tell me that the "first" step was that I had to pre-pay the tax on the money. (that would also be the last step)
Just received a call on my cell phone. I am at work and did not answer, which I would not have answered anyway, as it is a number not known to me. My cell phone number is only given to immediate family and friends, so any unknown number is usually a scammer, I have found. Thanks to this site for allowing me to know it was an unsolicited call from an idiot!
Jus received a call from that number. Person could barely speak English, and claimed to be from federal government. I hung up and called my carrier, which is AT&T to report. They have documented it and will research. I also reported to the donotcall.gov website.
