Received a call today, 04/29/2014 at 5:32pm CDT, from 1-202-224-5623 and my caller ID said CAPITOL US ..... Did not recognize the number so I did not answer ..... THe caller rang for five (5) minutes before disconneting ..... From a search of the telephone number it is listed a one for U.S. Senator David Vitter ..... I am, and have been, on the Do NOT Call listing since it started but one funny thing about this list is elected officials are exempted as are religious groups ......
The message left says "this is a notification from the Office of Sen. David Vitter in Washington, D.C. Blah, blah
blah" So tired of these ridiculous calls! Blocked!
People believe that because they are on "The Federal Do Not Call Registry" they are exempt from these
kind of calls. But what most people don't know is that the FDNC and your STATE DNC registry can only hold
so many numbers. After period of time some numbers drop off. You have to RE-REGISTER. Urging people to
go back to verify if their number is still on the list. If not, put it back on the list. Besides blocking, that's about
all we can do.
First, you are spewing absolute BS about the size of the DNC lists being limited and people needing to reregister. No such limitation exists and at least on the Federal level, registration is permanent. Most state lists are also permanent but check with your state, if they even have one.
Second, the Federal DNC list only covers sales calls. Solicitations for charities, opinion polls and market surveys, calls from or on behalf of political organizations and debt collection calls are all exempt as are calls from companies you have done business with during the past 18 months until you request they do not make sales calls to you. Most state laws mirror that of the Federal law but a few states are more restrictive in making more types of calls covered. Again check with your state if there is a state DNC list where you live.
Third, the DNC lists are not any kind of blocking service so lawbreakers are going to call regardless and many scams, since they do not involve selling something, would be exempt anyway.
